Mike Carruthers:
Stress and anxiety are bigger problems today than ever before.

Gregory Jantz:
Anxiety is probably right now the most common non-medical diagnosis. And anxiety, The World Health Organization says that anxiety and depression will be the #1 problem worldwide by year 2020.

Psychologist Dr. Gregory Jantz, author of the book Overcoming Anxiety, Worry, and Fear, says many of us could stand to be a little more hardy.

If I’m hardy I’d probably have more gratitude. You know grateful people are optimistic people and you can have optimism even in the culture that we live in. And I think that optimism; we have longer and healthier relationships and fewer physical problems by the way.

Anxiety and depression cannot coexist with gratitude and optimism.

When I’m depressed I don’t feel optimistic. So as I see gratitude I allow for joy in my life, as I  see gratitude I become more optimistic – and the depression has no place then.

And the way you become more optimistic and grateful is to have a plan to do exactly that.

Change your environment, get up, make an agreement with yourself, I’m going for a 20 minute walk. I’m moving, I’ve got to create some physical movement. It’s amazing too; people don’t tend to drink enough water, simple things walking and water. People who are depressed tend to be dehydrated, so you’ve got to drink your water, you’ve got to be out there moving and walking.
