Interview with Sue Perry Deputy Editor of ShopSmart Magazine

_______________

Mike Carruthers:
Back to school shopping can get very expensive, however the Internet can help you save a lot of money. For instance instead of buying everything consider swapping.

Sue Perry:
You can go to something called swapmama.com and you can click on school and office supplies and you can see listings from people who wants stuff and want to get rid of.

If you’ve got to buy some expensive things like; laptop or a fancy graphing calculator you might consider “refurbs”, they’ve been used but they’ve been refurbished. That can save you hundreds of dollars; you just want to stick to retailers that you trust, Amazon.com, Dell.com (and go to their outlet site), Sonystyle.com (and go to their outlet site).

There are other websites that will tell you when things go on sale in your area.

Well there’s a great site called shopittome.com, if you sign up, tell them what you’re looking for, certain brands, they’ll send you alerts to when those sneakers go on sale.

And you can browse store sale circulars all in one place.

Yahoo has yahoocircularcentral.shop.local.com and that will put you to local stores and give you an update of what they’ve got on sale. And there’s also something called Sundaysaver.com – does the same kind of thing.
