_______________

Mike Carruthers:
Dieting information can be confusing and contradictory – who do you believe? However there is solid research that says…

Ellen Kunes:
Carbs are actually not just OK for you, they’re great for you. And that all of these low-carb diets, they’re dead wrong.

There’s a new kind of carb that’s been discovered by research in recent years called resistant starch. It basically has the power to turn on enzymes to melt fat and it boosts all kinds of craving curbing hormones. So pasta, whole grain pasta particularly but regular can too, whole grain breads, cereals, potatoes, bananas – a not quite ripe banana has a full days worth of resistant starch in it. And resistant starch if you have it in the morning a banana with some oatmeal you are going to increase your fat burning by 25% or more over the course of the day.

If you’re not a big fan of whole wheat pasta…

You can eat regular white pasta as long as it’s cooled; because once it’s cooled (in other words in a pasta salad) it has more of this resistant starch.

As Editor and Chief of Health Magazine Ellen says she’s convinced that this is not just another fad diet.

We would never get behind it at Health Magazine if it wasn’t solid stuff.
