Mike Carruthers:
Disorganization in the workplace comes at a very high cost.

Len Merson:
There are studies that have been done over the last 15 years in the area of information management, all these studies have been independent of each other, but they happened to ask one question in common. The question that was asked was, “How much time does an employee spend per day looking for information they can’t locate?”

Each of these studies came up between 60 and 90 minutes per day per employee. Now if you have a company with just 20 people, that’s 20 hours a day lost in productivity for that company.

But that disorganization adds to bigger problem and that’s the incredibly high level of stress in today’s workplace.

Corporations, major corporations, are saying today that what they need is to see the stress reduction more than any other factor. Let me ask if you know a term, I know you know the term absenteeism. The term is “presenteeism”, “presenteeism” is legitimately where people come to work, they are present but they are not productive.

And a primary reason for that lack of productivity is the chaos in the workplace.

At the moments that you’re the most inundated, information’s just flying at you, how innovative and how creative are you at those moments? That’s the percentage that you have no creativity or innovation in what you’re doing.
