Mike Carruthers:
According to life expectancy statistics, we’re living longer than ever before so, you might assume we’re doing something right, but look a little closer.

Joel Fuhrman M.D.:
We’re not living longer than ever before. Cancer rates have climbed. From 1935 to 2005 cancer rates climbed every single year for 70 years straight. 2% of the population had heart attacks a hundred years ago and today it’s 40%.

Joel Fuhrman M.D.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of the book Eat to Live

The idea that we’re living longer than ever before is just a myth because we have less people dying during childbirth  - so almost all the advancement in human longevity occurred due to child birthing and infectious diseases at very young ages – not because people in middle age are living longer.

As we know, says Dr. Fuhrman, what you eat has a huge impact.

We’re talking here about people who have adequate vitamin D intake to lower the risk of breast cancer by 40%. People who eat mushrooms every day could drop the risk of breast cancer by more than 30%. People who eat cruciferous greens every day can lower the risk of prostate cancer by more than 50%. We’re talking about people taking control of their health destiny.

The science is very conclusive and it’s pretty interesting.

Nobody has to have a heart attack; you don’t have to have a stroke. You don’t have to get demented when you get older. In other words we have the science available today, we could dramatically extend human life span, give people a better quality of life and solve the healthcare crisis we have in America.
