Mike Carruthers:
If you're trying to go green and cut down on commercial cleaners around the house try shaving cream - it's good for spot cleaning carpets.

Reena Nerbas:

Just put it onto your carpets, leave it for a few minutes and then dab, dab, dab and it works really, really well.

Reena Nerbas, author of the book Household Solutions #2 with Kitchen Secrets , says in colder climates mice will sometimes get into the trunk or engine compartment of your car to stay warm.

Take some shaving cream, put it on cotton balls then put it in the engine of your car - they can't stand the smell of it so that keeps them away.

Vodka has some pretty interesting uses you may not know.

Vodka is really good as an air freshener. And I was talking to someone while I was speaking at a home show and he said that he was at a museum and a whole bunch of people had donated clothes. Well the first thing the museum does is take vodka in a spray bottle and spray down all the fabrics. And it immediately freshens up the clothes without leaving any kind of scent.

To clean your toilet you might try Kool Aid instead of a chemical cleaner, especially if you own a dog.

Some people have dogs that drink right out of the toilet. You just use your Kool Aid, sprinkle it in the toilet, leave it for about ten minutes and then wipe your toilet as you normally would. And the reason why this works is because it contains citric acid; in the same way if you use orange crystals or Kool Aid, you can put this into your dishwasher - it cleans out your whole dishwasher as well as the hoses.
