Men’s clothing expert Bob Baumann of Ed Baumann Clothiers in Dallas has some advice for men who want to look sharp and one pet peeve of Bob’s is…
Button down shirts, button downs are for young men in college. They’re not for men who have made in life; the attorney, the doctor, the CEO that guy should be in a straight collar shirt. You’ll never see the President of the United States in a button down shirt under a suit coat.
And when you buy a suit, buy it right.
You walk in you’re a 42 reg and the guy looks at you and he says, “Well I don’t have that suit in a 42 reg but I’ve got it in a 44, it’s only 1 size bigger we can cut it down and make it fit you – it’s no big deal.” And when they cut it down they’re actually butchering it, can you fit into it? Yes. Will it look like it was made to fit you? No.
Your socks are supposed to match your pants.
If you have on a pair of khakis you should have a khaki sock, if you have on a navy suit, a navy sock, etcetera. Another big mistake is their shoes are supposed to match their belt. Well that’s really not an issue if you go out and buy a black pair of shoes because black is black. But brown – there’s 30 different shades. So when you buy a brown shoe right then and there you should find a brown belt that matches the shoe and buy it.
