_______________

Mike Carruthers:
Can you really make money selling stuff online? Maybe, the whole world of e-business keeps changing.

Scott Fox:
We saw with recent holiday sales for example, that the number one growth area for sales was actually apparel. If you think ten years ago everybody said, “You can’t buy apparel or shoes online because you have to try them on”. Well people seem to have gotten over that.

Internet marketing expert Scott Fox, author of the book e-Riches 2.0 says if you want to make money online…

Where the money to made is, is finding something you like to do. If you started today and said, “Well I love shoes, I’m going to start an online shoe store.” Well Zappos.com, which is a big online shoe retailer, well they’ve got that pretty well covered. Or a bookstore, OK that means you’re going up against Amazon.

So instead you have to find a niche.

What you need to do is look at yourself and say, “Well what excites me? I really like scuba diving and I’m going to start a bookstore about scuba diving. But I’m going to be the expert on scuba diving, and I’m going to sell not just books but equipment, and book travel packages and blog about it and use Facebook and Twitter.” But you’ve got to have a starting place that’s of interest to other users.

The Internet offers so many potential opportunities it’s hard to know what to do or where to start.

Why not just start? You’re going to learn so much. The reason you don’t want to start is because you’re afraid of losing money and losing time. Well there’s very little money to lose here. A blog is basically free, e-mail’s free - and yes, time is money, I grant you that, but that’s another reason to pick something that you’re personally interested in.
