Mike Carruthers:
When you ask most people how well they cope with change in life, you typically hear….

Ariane de Bonvoisin:
“I hate change, I resist change, I’m bad at change…” So I know that is a very classic, typical response.

What I have found though is that when people really get down to it, they actually realize that they have been through a lot more change than they’ve given themselves credit for. You know, starting a job, falling in love, getting pregnant, moving, quitting smoking… You have a change muscle. You are, in fact, much better at change than you have ever been told.

Some people are better than others at dealing with change.

People who successfully navigate change are optimists. They believe that from this change something good will come. It’s what I call the change guarantee. There will be more jobs, there will be more money and there will be more relationships. People who are good at change have more of an abundance mindset.

Change is scary because change means uncertainty.

Einstein said the most important decision you’ll ever make in your life is whether to believe you live in a friendly universe or an unfriendly universe. And I think what makes the difference with someone who will eventually get through that change is for them to believe there is something bigger going on here. That at some level, there is something else that is going to show up.

Tomorrow, more strategies for dealing with change.
