Interview with Allan Pease, author of the book Why Men Want Sex and Women Need Love: Solving the Mystery of Attraction

_______________

Mike Carruthers:
What attracts men and women to each other is still rooted in very primitive instincts. For example…

Allan Pease:
When a woman’s looking at a man she’s evaluating his potential as a partner based on his ability to provide resources, which is a very ancient drive – resources means to provide food, protection, shelter.

In the politically correct 21st century it’s popular to think that we’ve changed and we’re living now where we’ve moved away from our ancient roots. And that’s where the contradiction is - that our biology is out of date with the way we’re choosing to live.

When you understand that these basic instincts still exist you can use them to your best advantage.

I’ve got 6 kids, including 3 sons and I told all my 3 sons what you must do by the time you get to be 20 years of age, you must learn how to cook. Because men have been providing food for women for a million years. And there’s a very basic primal thing in a man providing food for a woman by cooking it for her. And if he takes her to dinner (and this is something that most guys get a bit confused about) if you really want to "pull a woman’s ivories" or make her feel good – pay the bill. Don’t go for the half me (half you), that’s not going to get you a love relationship. As the man, provide the food and pay the bill.

And women like a man who can dance.

Dancing by most animals is done as a prelude to love, it’s a courtship thing and that’s why women are good at it and love to do it. And if you can do basic dancing as a man you will be popular with all of the women.
