Mike Carruthers:
Keeping your life organized all of the time can be a challenge.

Sarah Welch:
The average American wastes about an hour a day because they’re disorganized. They have something but they can’t put their finger on it.

Sarah Welch

Sarah Welch, founder of GetButtonedUp.com and author of the book Pretty Neat, has a few simple ways to help anyone be more organized.

Every night before you go to bed spend 5 minutes just picking up the last 2 rooms that you are in. It will help you stay on top of daily clutter because really you kind of live in 2 or 3 rooms of the house.

And another key to staying organized is to stop things from coming in your home in the first place.

It’s having that drop zone right when you come in the door, for your keys, your phone but also a junk mail rule. You’re going to get over 850 pieces of junk mail this year alone and you’re going to waste about 8 days of your life just dealing with junk mail. So you want to cut that to an absolute minimum and have a recycle bin right underneath your mail drop.

And to be more productive and efficient Sarah suggests you start each day with one question.

If I got nothing else but these 3 things done today I will have been productive. That is a very simple way of getting your brain to zero in on your absolute priorities and get through a lot more of what really matters.
