______________

Mike Carruthers:
Being exposed to some natural sunlight is healthy. But as the days gets shorter…

Suzy Cohen:
People are going to work in the dark. They’re inside all day and they go home in the dark. So they’re not getting the natural sunlight that they need to feel their best.

Pharmacist Suzy Cohen

Pharmacist Suzy Cohen, spokesperson for Litebook, a light therapy device to help people get through the winter blues.

The winter blues are very very common. And if you’re feeling low and tired and stressed or if you find it difficult to focus and concentrate on things like you used to – these are signs of winter blues. And 1 out of 3 people at this time of year seem to develop that.

Getting enough sunlight everyday can really help improve these symptoms.

15 minutes of sunlight each day would be very very helpful for people. We can’t live without light it’s the whole basis for photosynthesis.

But what if you can’t get that much bright daylight every day?

There are some natural nutrients that one could try. I would suggest Vitamin D also Sam-e, this is a natural supplement that you can get in most pharmacies and health food stores. And Sam-e seems to improve mood. And 5 hydroxy tryptophan – this is a natural supplement that seems to drive up levels of serotonin in the brain.
