If you’re trying to lose weight for your New Year’s resolution you know it’s difficult, so here are some guidelines to help you succeed.

Cynthia Sass:
Well the number 1 thing you can do to lose weight is eat breakfast within an hour of waking up. That’s really going to rev up your metabolism, in fact sumo wrestlers how they get as large as they are is they don’t eat all day.

By eating breakfast within an hour of waking up, you’re going to burn more calories all throughout the whole day. Even just a 100 calories a day extra burn can be a 10 pound weight loss in a year.

And in this country in particular we tend to eat too fast which causes us to eat more.

There are some studies that how quick eating versus slow eating impacts fullness and satiety but also awareness. You know eating while we’re checking our email, eating while we’re watching TV, eating while we’re reading something, that type of distraction can lead you to eat faster and eat more than you would if you really were paying attention and slowing down.

And a meal that consists of multiple flavors will make you feel fuller.

For example in a stir fry I use some vinegar but then I add fresh grated ginger, crushed red pepper and a little splash of blood orange juice. Those have been linked to an improvement in satiety, so you feel fuller on less food and fewer calories when you have these natural flavors and seasonings in a meal.
