Dr. David Agus, Professor of Medicine at USC and author of the book The End of Illness...
If women take a multivitamin they’re increasing their risk of death. If you look at the studies, there are over 50 studies done, with more than a thousand people – none have shown a benefit in terms of heart disease and cancer with taking vitamins or supplements. Several of them have shown increases in cancer.
Physical activity is more important than you might imagine.
There’s an amazing study done in 1953 where they looked at the British transit workers. Half were the bus drivers and half were the ticket takers that walk around and took the tickets on the bus. Well the bus driver sat 90% of the day, the ticket takers walked there was a 70% decrease in heart disease and death in the ticket takers – even though they were the same weight as the bus drivers. So moving and walking is key.
Because inflammation is a big risk factor for cancer Dr. Agus says you simply must get a flu shot every year.
There’s no question is you got the flu tomorrow you would survive but you’d be sick for 5 to 7 days and a decade from now your risk of cancer and heart disease would be up from the 5 to 7 days of inflammation associated with the flu.
