Interview with Tim Schurr, author of the book Get Out Of Your Way: How to Eliminate Self-Sabotage and Win Your Life!

_______________

Mike Carruthers:
Funny thing about the human mind…

Tim Schurr:
We use our mind in a way that makes our life harder than it has to be. We focus on what we don’t want instead of what we do want.

Tim Schurr, author of the book Get Out Of Your Way: How to Eliminate Self-Sabotage and Win Your Life!, says so often people have big dreams and aspirations but in their mind they’re thinking…

This is never going to happen, it’s never going to work out, I’m never going to get what I want. When you say that to yourself, there’s a genie that lives in the back of your head - it’s called your unconscious mind. And that genie grants wishes and the wishes it grants are based on what you say to yourself the most and what you imagine in your mind. And if you are imagining yourself not succeeding your genie has no other choice except to grant those wishes and that’s why most people’s lives stay exactly the same.

It’s not magic, says Tim; it’s just that when you focus on a positive outcome instead of focusing on your problems it starts a chain of events.

The reason you use your imagination and focus on what you want is because it creates the feelings that will allow you to take action. That positive action is going to give you what you want.

Now that doesn’t mean things will always be easy.

Life is tough. There’s an old saying that says, “Pain is evitable but suffering is optional.” Do things happen in life that aren’t fair? Yes. But Voltaire French philosopher once said, “You’re not in control of the hand you’re dealt but you are in control of how you play it.”
