Mike Carruthers:
Saving money at the grocery store isn’t so much about changing what you buy rather it’s about changing when you buy it.

Chrissy Pate:
So we know Memorial Day and Labor Day there’s going to be lots of BBQ items on sale so you’re going to find your ketchup, your mustard, your buns are going to be at the lowest price of the year. So one of my favorite things to do is come Memorial Day or Labor Day I stock up for the whole year on ketchup.

January traditionally is a sale cycle for breakfast items so you’re going to see lots of cereals go on sale. March believe it or not is frozen food month; holidays are also a great time because you’ll see all the baking items go on sale.

If you were to make a list of the things you buy most and keep track of the prices you’ll notice that sooner or later they will all go on sale at regular intervals.

So when I was watching the shredded cheese I saw at high it was $3 but then about every 12 weeks I was able to get it between a $1.25 and $1.50. So if I just stocked up at the time when it’s a $1.25 and $1.50 I was saving half off.

And in order to save money be aware that the grocery store may not be the best place to buy everything.

Grocery stores tend to run high on personal care items so that’s not necessarily the best place to buy your shampoo and your tooth paste. Your better bet would be going to a drug store.
