Interview with Gabe Saglie Senior Editor of TravelZoo.com

_______________

Mike Carruthers:
If you’ve looked at traveling this summer you’ve probably noticed that airfares are higher.

Gabe Saglie:
We’ve known for a long time that airlines were looking to hike some airfare, reduce capacity on their end, using smaller aircraft, taking some aircraft out of rotation all together – and airfare has gone up.

Gabe Saglie

Gabe Saflie, Senior Editor of TravelZoo the largest online publisher of available travel deals, says although airfares are up other travel prices are down.

Hotel rates in fact are a little bit lower than they were the last summer. Cruise deals abound out there. Vacation packages are there for the taking particularly some of the tropical destinations out there.

In fact if you’re willing to travel to where the weather is hot you can save a lot of money this summer.

So if you’re willing to travel to Las Vegas in mid to late July when the temperatures are in the triple digits some of the room rates in Vegas for the summer are unbelievably low. Overnight stays on the strip as low as 20 dollars a night. Same with the Caribbean some of the best pricing to all inclusives in the Caribbean or Mexico will be when it is hottest.

Gabe says it’s always worth trying to get a better deal or trying to negotiate an upgrade with a rental car company and the same is true with hotels.

Hotels are hurting, generally speaking, business travel is down so large city hotels; New York, Chicago, San Francisco these hotels because business travel is low is now looking at leisure travelers to fill the rooms and they’re open to negotiation.
