People who have a negative way of interpreting events, that’s going to bring their mood down. So it can be extremely helpful to take a look at your own thinking and learn more constructive ways to interpret the events of your life and to be more compassionate to yourself.
How do you do that? Well by practicing what’s called mindfulness.
What that means is paying attention to what you’re experiencing in the present moment and trying to do that without judging yourself or judging others harshly is a wonderful antidote to depression.
Another thing depressed people do is ruminate.
They worry about the future, they dwell on the past and for people who are depressed finding ways that bring them into full engagement with the present is a powerful way to enhance their mood.
