Mark Thompson, author of the book Admired ...
And we didn’t find anybody who felt they were overvalued no matter how successful they were. Everybody feels like, “You know if they could just get me a little better if they just understood a little more.” So did the first ever study using resources at Stanford and North Western to find out what the heck does it mean to be more valued in your work and in your life and how can you get that?
And what it seems to come done to is people value you and respect you more if you value and respect them more.
And so what we’re definitely evangelizing is people become a detective and find out what’s really valuable to the people who are most important to you whether that’s work related or personal. And that’s kind of transformational you know find out those top 3 things the boss cares the most about, what’s going to make her successful in her job? What’s going to make her more effective and admired by her superiors? Boy if you sign up to help her with that she’s going to reciprocate like crazy. And so that’s what we’re really helping people to do realize that if you want to be valued you better figure out how to give value first.
And when you do that value and respect will be returned because of human nature.
Very deeply imbedded in human nature is reciprocity, I mean we do tend to treat others well who treat us well.
