Interview with Marvin Brown, author of the book How To Meet & Talk To Anyone Anywhere Anytime
Ever feel shy or uncomfortable at a party or event when you’re surrounded by strangers?
Statistically 95% of the people in the United States of America do not know how to go over to someone they don’t know and then begin a conversation.
Marvin Brown, author of the book How To Meet & Talk To Anyone Anywhere Anytime…
And consequently they get feelings of shyness, it doesn’t mean that they’re shy but they get feelings of shyness. And it’s been proven time and time again when people learn what to say all of a sudden those feelings of shyness disappear and they approach people they don’t know.
So the question is what do you say when you’re surrounded by strangers?
Use the environment around you and find an environmental prop. I’ve been at parties, I go to hors d’oeuvres table it’s the best place to meet people because there you have the situational props. “Hey you know what’s in that dish? It looks good. Well I guess there goes my diet everything looks terrific.” And people will talk back to you.
And when you do get up the nerve to start up that conversation with a stranger…
You have to understand that you’re doing that person next to you a big favor. Whether it’s at a cocktail party, a wedding, an engagement because they’d really like to be able to talk to people they just don’t know how to start. And if you use the situational opener it’s as easy as pie.
