Finding Work You Are Passionate About
Interview
with Lawler Kang, author of the book, Passion
At Work
|
Mike
Carruthers:
Are you passionate about the work you do? 75% of working people
say no, maybe you’re not even sure what your passion is. So here’s
a place to look…
Lawler Kang:
First off, think back to when you were twelve. Actually research
has recently shown that what we liked to do when we were twelve
has the highest correlation with professional happiness.
Lawler Kang,
is author of the book, Passion
At Work…
Secondly, look
at your resume, things you’ve done in your past and you’ve enjoyed.
Third thing, try to keep track of what you daydream about, what
constantly draws your attention away from your work? Finally,
trust your gut.
Lawler works
with people who make the decision to follow their passion and
says he has yet to meet anyone who regrets that decision. And
once you find your passion and make that decision…
First off, and
this is most importantly, you’ve got to opt in. You’ve got to
make the decision that you’re going to invest the time, energy
and just dedication to seeing this thing through wherever it
may take you-that’s just critical. Then, I suggest people try
to triangulate on three critical inputs: what you’re passionate
about, what you’re great at and love to do from a skill-set
perspective and what is important to you in your current stage
of life. Combining these three outputs can give you, sort of
what I call your personal niche.
