Strategies To Stay On Your New Year's Eating Plan
Interview
with Linda Spangle, author of the book, 100
Days Of Weight Loss
|
Mike
Carruthers:
So, this
is the year you go on that diet and really lose weight, but the
reality is…
Linda Spangle:
Most people average only three to four weeks on a diet before
they fall off the wagon. In spite of your good intentions you’ve
got to have something that helps you stay on track.
Linda Spangle,
author of the book, 100
Days Of Weight Loss has some great suggestions to help you
stay on track and really help you lose the weight this time.
One of the best
things to start with is asking the question, “ Am I interested
or committed to losing weight?” You see if you’re just interested
you’ll stay on your diet until something better comes along,
like the donuts at the office. If you’re committed, you say,
“You know what, I’m going to do this no matter what”-and it
really helps you stay stronger on it.
It’s also essential
to get the support of people around you.
I call it, "train
your family"or "train your support people" about
what you need. And that’s as simple as saying, “You know what
will really help me is: don’t eat in front of me or don’t leave
open bags of potato chips on the counter and certainly don’t
ever say, “Should you be eating that?”-Because of course that
just makes us eat more.
Linda says, remember
the five-hour rule.
You know the
longer you go without eating the more hungry you get which absolutely
also makes you lose more of your control. If we get way over-hungry
we tend to eat too much and do not care. So, I tend to suggest
that people never go longer than five hours between at least
some kind of meals or snacks.
Tomorrow, more
ways to help you stay on track- I’m Mike Carruthers and that’s
