Strategies To Stay On Your New Year's Eating Plan II
Interview
with Linda Spangle, author of the book, 100
Days Of Weight Loss
|
Mike
Carruthers:
If you want some really effective ways to stick to your diet
this New Year, remember the "first two bites" principle.
Linda Spangle:
That one has saved me more times than I can count. It’s simply
saying, “Alright, the first two bites of any food have the most
flavor and after that you’re just feeding.”
Linda Spangle,
Registered Nurse and author of the book, 100
Days Of Weight Loss…
So, what you
do is, you really focus on those two bites and you ask yourself,
"is this food really wonderful and can I really get the
flavor that I want, just from two bites?" And you know
what, most of the time you can.
You’ve probably
heard that eating slower will help you eat less and therefore
lose weight, and it does make sense.
You know research
has always said that there’s about a twenty-minute gap between
the signal from your stomach to your brain that says you’re
full. I actually teach another technique called the eating pause.
And it’s simply that when you’re eating a meal, when you stop
and you put the food down and you sit for a few seconds or a
minute or so, you might look around or talk to somebody or read
the paper for a minute- that pause is almost always the sign
that your stomach is right at the exact point of being very
comfortable, very satisfied. And if you can learn to recognize
that pause and say, “ Ok, fine whatever is left on my plate
doesn’t matter.” You can completely manage your food amounts
without ever measuring or weighing a thing.
You can take
Linda’s diet quiz on her website which you can link to from
