Mike
Carruthers:
In order to live a happy life, it helps to discover how happy people do it. And
overwhelmingly what they say is …
John Izzo : To leave
no regrets. One of the things I discovered in talking with these people is that
almost no one regretted a risk they took in their life that didn't work out. John
Izzo, author of the book The
5 Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die, interviewed two hundred and fifty
people to figure out where happiness comes from. People
didn't say, "You know I went for love and it didn't work out, I regret that,
I wrote that book, it got rejected, I regret that." What people said are
the things they regretted were the things they DIDN'T do. And I began to realize
that one of the secrets to living well and dying happy was to make sure that you
weren't ruled by fear in your life. That if there was something that you wanted
to do, you would go for it, knowing that failure is not actually the greatest
fear at the end of life. The greatest fear at the end of life is to say, "I
wish I had, or I should have." Another
secret to a happy life - be true to yourself. Whether
it's in the choice of your career or the way you live your life. And they also
told me, in essence, that each one of us has an inner voice that tells us whether
we're being true to ourselves. And that if we listen to that voice, we find happiness
if we don't listen to it we're really at peril of winding up being unhappy. Tomorrow,
more secrets to a happy life - I'm Mike Carruthers and that's Something You Should
Know.
