Differences Between Men & Women
Interview
with George Lough author of What
Men Are Like |
Mike Carruthers:
There
are some important differences between men and women that both
sexes need to understand.
George Lough:
A major difference between men and women is that men appear
to be more interested in problem solving; the kinds of problems
that occur at work for example, that they can use logic to solve.
George Lough,
co-author of the book What
Men Are Like...
Even when boys
are playing games - if an argument breaks out in a group of
boys they will try to quickly resolve it to go on with the game.
If someone's feelings are hurt that's not as important as continuing
the game. But with girls playing games, however, the relationships
are much more important. If a bad feeling gets evoked for some
reason, girls are more likely to just stop the game all together
and even quit if they can't resolve the personal issue.
And this difference
carries on into adult life.
So that later
on in life a man feels like he needs to spend most of his time
and energy at his work and he expects the relationship sort
of to take care of itself. You know when a man comes home from
work he's sort of feels like well he's done his thing, he's
done the job and that proves that he loves his family. After
all if it weren't for them he wouldn't be out there doing it.
And so he feels that's it, I don't have to talk about it, I
don't have to talk about my feelings for you or get into these
emotional issues. And that's an area where men really need to
be trained by women to become more conscious of the importance
of sharing feelings and working on the relationship.
