Mike
Carruthers:
How do you live a happy life? Ask happy people and they'll tell you…
John
Izzo : If you want to be happy you have to get outside of yourself.
Because this obsessive focus on self is one of the greatest sources of our unhappiness
and it's an interesting paradox for us. John
Izzo, author of the book The
5 Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die, interviewed two hundred and fifty
genuinely happy people. These
were people who other people said were the happiest people they know. They were,
for the most part, very non-judgmental people. They tended to really be kind and
accepting of other people and they even talked about how important that was. If
you want to be a happy person make people a priority in your life. And so many
times in our society people fall to the wayside to all the tasks. Happy
people have a fundamentally different view of life. One
of the things that I kept hearing as I talked to these people is that life is
not a contest. Stop judging your life and start living your life. Here's what
that meant; first of all be in a place of gratitude. Focus on the things you have
in your life not the things that you don't have. And
another important secret to happiness… …to
give more than you take. Many of these people said that when they began their
lives, like so many of us, they thought, "The greatest happiness I will get
in my life is what I get from the world." But they said, "The longer
I live the more I realize that the greatest happiness was always what I gave -
not what I got." At
somethingyoushouldknow.net I'm Mike Carruthers and that's Something You Should
Know.
