Is It A Good Time To Look For A New Job?

Mike
Carruthers:
If
you want a new job, 2007 is a good time to look.
Dave Sanford:
I think the big change that we see right now is there
is very much a war for talent out there, companies are working
really hard trying to attract the best and the brightest.
Dave Sanford,
Executive Vice President of Winter Wyman, a Boston based employment
recruiting firm, says even though there are a lot of jobs out
there, you still have to put your best foot forward.
Even though there's
this war for talent and there's a much higher degree of wanting
to bring the right person on board, companies are going to wait
until they find that person - they are not going to settle for
second best at this point.
So everything
has to be perfect; your resume, your interviewing skills and
your ability to be specific about your accomplishments.
People need to
talk about, not just that they're good folks and they've worked
hard and they've showed up for work every day, but what have
they done specifically in their careers, in their current job
that's made a difference, that's really impacted the business
- and making sure it's current information. The stuff that you
did ten years ago isn't as important to that new employer as
what you did ten minutes ago.
Saying you have
references on request and hoping they never ask doesn't work
anymore, says Dave…
It's important
for you to have not just references, but great references that
are prepared to talk about your current skill set, and why you
were different and why you are somebody that a new company would
want to hire.
