Making Your Memory Work For You
Interview
with Scott Hagwood, author of
Memory Power
|
Mike
Carruthers:
Memory. We all want to be better at remembering.
Scott
Hagwood:
And one of the best ways to be able to understand how you improve
your memory is to understand how you remember.
Memory expert,
Scott Hagwood, author of the book, Memory
Power…
For example when
you give something your complete and undivided attention you
automatically raise your level of awareness. You know, you think
about watching a movie, watching a television show or listening
to a radio program, when that has your undivided attention you'll
become amazed at the level of detail that you're able to remember
simply by giving your complete and undivided attention. The
next thing is to be able to raise your level of emotion or your
arousal. That's why we remember where we were or what we were
doing or who we were talking to when the 9/11 incident happened
because our natural state of awareness, our fear our concern
was raised so the level of detail we have in our mind was quite
extraordinary because our emotion level was raised.
So, you'll always
remember better if you give something your undivided attention
and you get emotionally involved.
And the third
thing is understanding what is a typical, or different, novel,
unique- when you're learning something ask yourself this question:
"What is it that I know now that I didn't know just a moment
ago?" And because it's different, novel, unique those three
things can naturally enhance your memory.
Tomorrow, the
things you knowingly do that will always make remembering more
difficult- I'm Mike Carruthers and that's Something You Should
Know.
