Making Your Memory Work For You II
Interview
with Scott Hagwood, author of
Memory Power
|
Mike
Carruthers:
Should you ever think you're having trouble with your memory?
Scott
Hagwood:
Ask yourself these three questions: One, "How much stress
am I under?" Second, "How much sleep am I getting?"
Because it isn't like rocket science, if we don't get good sleep
the night before it's difficult to focus and concentrate the next
day. And the third question is, "Was I really paying attention?"
Memory expert,
Scott Hagwood, author of the book, The Memory
Power says most people don't realize that stress is a memory
killer.
Because when
we were under stress it's a physiological response that stress
releases these deadly hormones inside your brain that actually
unravel these connections, your memory connections inside your
head. So, being able to handle that stress, being able to reduce
the stress in your life is a great way to be able to enhance
your memory as well.
How to get better
at remembering names and faces is the most common question people
ask Scott.
And the next
question that I ask, lovingly, is "How often do you practice?"
Because so many times people say, "I want to get better
with names and faces." But they don't have themselves in
environments where they are able to remember lots of new names
and faces. Memories and our minds are really our best friends,
and the more that we're in a situation where we're learning
or growing our mind naturally gets attuned to that. The more
we do something the better we become at doing that. And so it
is with names and faces, if you want to get better to remember
names and faces put yourself into an environment where you are
learning names and faces on a regular basis.
