Self-Help For Sinus Problems
Interview
with Murray Grossan, author of The
Sinus Cure
Mike
Carruthers:
This is that time of year when many of us suffer from sinus problems,
allergies and congestion. But there are some way to fight back.
Murray
Grossan:
There's a certain way of breathing, breathing in at the count
of 4 and out at the count of 6, that causes a relaxation to
take place. This takes away a lot of that congestion.
Dr. Murry
Grossan, author of the book The
Sinus Cure, says if you do get stuffed up be very careful
about using over the counter nasal sprays.
Many of them have what we call rebound, you know you use
the nasal spray and it opens up your nose beautifully, and then
it closes up again, and then you have to use the spray over,
and over again and pretty soon using it every half hour.
Hot liquids
are always helpful when you're stuffed up.
Maybe
hot compresses over the nose, below the eyes, above the eyes
where the sinuses are. Hot compresses bring blood to the area,
the more blood to the area the more defenses you have.
If you're
congested, or you're having trouble breathing, or if you snore…
If you
take the tip of your nose and gently raise it up, that's a valve
that opens up. So you take some tape, surgical tape and you
put it right under the tip of the nose, and you very gently
put the tape onto the bridge of the nose, and just gently raise
the tip. That will open up the nose quite a bit.
