Mike Carruthers:
If you'd had a prescription filled lately you know how expensive
drugs are but there are some ways to reduce your costs you may
not have thought of.
Rick
Melcher R.Ph.:
Lets say you're taking a 25mg tablet and there's a 50 and 100mg
tablet.

Buys Drug Wise…
If you
would buy the 50mg tablet take one half of that tablet you're
now back at that 25mg dose that you were taking. You will save
30, 40, 50 in some cases 75%.
Everyone
knows that buying a generic rather than a name brand drug is
another easy way to save money but there are concerns about
generics.
Some
people say, "gosh I took the brand and now when I take
the generic I just don't get the same results." That may
be true maybe because of the binders and other things that make
that tablet how it's compressed it may dissolve a little different.
However, the thing that can be easily done is the dose can be
adjusted. You usually will save a lot more money taking two
of the generic if that was necessary which is not usually the
case versus taking one of the brand names.
If you're
going to take a drug for a long time, Rick says, get your doctor
to write a prescription for as much of the drug as possible.
Every
pharmacy that I've ever worked in and know of, if you buy quantities
of 90 or 100 there's usually some pretty good price breaks on
almost every single pharmacy you go to that you will save some
money.
