Our New Ebay Culture
Interview
with Daniel Nissanoff, author of
Future Shop |
Mike
Carruthers:
There's a quiet revolution going on, we're becoming temporary
owners.
Daniel Nissanoff:
That as a culture we're beginning to shed this legacy, the value
system that caused us to own things and hold onto them for the
rest of our lives- leaving our attics and garages cluttered with
things we no longer use.
Daniel Nissanoff,
author of the book, Future
Shop…
Our future is
going to be much more efficient largely driven by Ebay and similar
types of companies that are now allowing us to extract value
from those things by finding homes with people that actually
place value on them.
Daniel tells
the story of a woman who bought a pair of $800 pair of shoes
for her wedding. She wore the shoes once and sold them on Ebay
for $600 so really the shoes only cost $200.
The same thing
will hold true for golf clubs, watches, jewelry, clothing, accessories
all of our everyday items. We'll begin to look at them as temporary
purchases and be able to extract value from them in the future.
And the result in that as in the example with the expensive
shoes is that you'll be able to reach as a consumer. Instead
of settling for something less expensive you can buy the things
you really want knowing that you can extract value at the back
end.
And we're only
at the very beginning. The fact is very few people sell on online
auctions.
Lots of people
have bought but actually only about 5% of all the people who
have ever bought anything on Ebay have sold something on Ebay.
Tomorrow what's
going to make selling your old stuff a lot easier- I'm Mike
Carruthers and that's Something You Should Know.
