Mike Carruthers:
You know those people who have a lot of clutter and mess but
they claim they know where everything is.
Peter
Walsh:
I just don't buy it because the stuff sucks everything out of
your life. Get rid of the stuff and you'll really live a richer
fuller life.
Professional
organizer Peter Walsh, author of the book, How
To Organize Just About Everything says a great way to begin
is to think of your home in terms of zones.
Where
is the zone for handling mail and paying bills? Where is your
dressing zone? And then keep the things that you need for that
activity in that area. For example mail shouldn't be all over
the house. And that straightaway will just streamline the way
you live your life.
Getting
and staying organized takes time and discipline. But as the
organizer on the TLC TV show Clean Sweep as well as privately,
Peter has helped hundreds of people get organized. And in every
case, he says, it's been a life changing experience.
What
happens is number one; they're far more present. Number two
it means far less stress in just trying to find stuff. It means
far less depression because I really believe that the basis
of a lot of depression is around clutter. And the cleaning of
their physical space I see frequently flows onto their relationships,
their careers even their physical health and they really have
a total transformation of their lives.
