Mike
Carruthers:
Valuable collectibles, you may have some and not even know
it.
Harry Rinker:
Because every week I see stuff that comes out of peoples attics
and I don't think we've seen 20 or 30 percent of what's out there
yet.
Antiques and
Collectibles expert, Harry Rinker, author of the book, How
To Think Like A Collector says there have been some interesting
changes in the collectibles world.
We're seeing
tremendous generation shifts, the 50's are out the 60's and
70's are in. In fact it's not going to be too much longer before
the 80's are in. Everybody thinks that something has to belong
to Grandma and Grandpa to be worth something when the truth
of the matter is if you're in your 50tys and you grew up with
it or in your 40tys and you grew up with it, chances are it's
going to be worth something. Now, it starts with toys then it
goes into TV memorabilia, music memorabilia, come on the hot
stuff right now is the TV memorabilia from the 60's and the
70's- Welcome Back Kotter, Charlie's Angels, Bionic Man. In
the movie area it's the generation of the Star Wars collector
that's coming into vogue right now and that stuff is up in everybody's
attic.
It's easy to
check the value of your collectible says Harry, just see what
they're selling for on one of the Internet auctions like Ebay.
Today I'm a great
believer that the Internet sale prices are the real prices.
So the wonderful thing is that you can check those Internet
prices and see what the stuff brings. What makes the Internet
prices so valid is the fact that most of the people who buy
up there are end users, not people who are buying for resale-
so the prices are solid.
