11, 2005: What Great Achievements Have In Common Interview
with Brian Brawdy, author of the book, Something
To Believe In | Mike
Carruthers: When you step back and look at all of human history you
can come to the conclusion that… Brian
Brawdy: The greatest moments in humanity, the greatest moments
in religion and for that matter music and art, have always come when the individual
was alone in nature. Brian
Brawdy, author of the book, Something
To Believe In… There
was something about solitude in nature and even if you weren't to take my word
for it, when you look at what it meant to Beethoven, when you look at what it
meant to Einstein or Newton… So, for me, my life has become more of a reporting
role letting folks know how time alone in the wilderness has changed the course
of humanity. And
so perhaps we should all find some time to spend alone in nature. I
tell people that there are seventy-two, twenty minute chunks in a twenty-four
hour day. So, what I suggest to people, I actually call them mind-ups, just like
push-ups or pull-ups or sit-ups, take twenty minutes, find your local parks, find
your back yard for that matter. I ask folks all the time, take twenty minutes
and watch the sun set. Give yourself permission for twenty minutes to be selfish. And
the results, says Brian, are well worth it. I
know that you'll come back a little calmer your pulse will have dropped a little
bit. I know that you've had, if you've had the opportunity to clear your mind,
like forget about paying the cable bill, and forget about the car payment and
the mortgage, focus in the moment, you'll come back calm, and we know a little
more level headed. At
somethingyoushouldknow.net I'm
Mike Carruthers and that's Something You Should Know.
