How You View The World
Interview
with Gary Gabel Ed.D, author of Personal
Takeover

Mike
Carruthers:
Sometimes it's how we view the world that gets in the way of
our own success, but that's often hard to see, because…
Gary Gabel:
We are each convinced that our reality is right - that the
way we view the world is right.
Gary Gabel author
of the book Personal
Takeover says the fact is how we see the world is very subjective
and we can change it to our own advantage.
Let's say I've
lost my job and I'm viewing it as a victim. I've been victimized
and I'm feeling sorry for myself. The more I just feel that
I was victimized and the more I feel sorry for myself, probably
the more I'm going to dwell on that and probably the less I'm
going to do to pull myself out of it. As opposed to the person
who says, "hey this happened to me. It wasn't good. I didn't
ask for it, I probably didn't deserve it. Now what do I do from
here."
But you first
have to admit to yourself that…
Maybe my view
of reality is not absolutely 100% correct. I've often seen that.
Where 2 people who are in conflict with one another in a job
setting think the other person is ill intended. And I often
as an outside mediator realize that neither one of them is ill
intended , they both are try to do the right thing, they just
have different views of things. So if a person can get feedback
from others and allow themselves to look at it from other perspectives,
they can begin seeing that their view is maybe not be the exact
100 % view of the way things are.
