Mike
Carruthers:
Ultimately our sucess in life is determined in life by how
well we get along with other people. So, it's important to realize...
J.R. Parrish:
The greatest need of every man, woman and child on the face
of the earth, after they have food, clothing and shelter- I
don't think the answer to that question is common knowledge-
It's the need to feel important.
J.R. Parrish,
author of the book, If
I'd Known Then What I Know Now, says we all know how good
it feels when other people make us feel important. Well, everyone
else feels the same way.
You know most
people are firm believers of the golden rule- do unto others
and you would have them do unto you. But that really isn't quite
right and I think if you change one word in there you get it
right. And that is "we should do unto others as they
would have us do unto them." For example you might have
someone coming over to dinner and you and your family happen
to be lamb lovers so you make this elaborate, beautful lamb
dinner andit just so happens that these people don't even eat
lamb. So you're trying to do the right thing but you're not
asking what the other person wants.
You know it's very
shocking what people really do want when you start asking them.
And J.R. believes
there is a very simple explanation for why some people are successful
and others are not.
Successful people
have the ability to give themselves a command and then they
have the discipline to follow through with that. And that seems
to be the largest missing ingredient of why people don't succeed.
