with Juli Shulem, author of the book, Home-Based
Business Mom | Mike
Carruthers: Managing your time. There are a lot of fairly complicated time
management systems available but there are some basics to time management that
can really help you be more effective. Juli
Shulem: Probably the most key point is to make sure that you are
scheduling your time the night before. So always schedule your day the night before.

Business Mom… Secondly
would be to prioritize items on your list in the order of importance. You have
to be able to look at your list and say to yourself if nothing else gets done
today but one thing, which must it, be? That needs to be the item that gets done.
Because we typically tend to go to the quick, easy, fun, fast items. "Oh
I'll just make this call real quick because I like this person or I want to get
this done and I can just check it off my list…" The thing is, it rarely is
the item that is the most important. So it's important to prioritize carefully. And
when you're scheduling, Juli says remember things always take longer than you
think they will. Don't
schedule anything for less than 10 minutes. Because no matter what it is, even
if it's the quickest phone call, it could end up taking 10 minutes. Because if
you end up leaving a message for someone and they call you back and they leave
a message for you. By the time you've played phone tag a couple of times back
and forth, there's your 10 minutes. So nothing takes less than 10 minutes. And
what I tell people is always over estimate the amount of time you think it's going
to take you to do something by 50%. So if you think it's going to take you a half
hour give yourself forty-five minutes. At
