Mike
Carruthers: Been to the grocery store lately? The prices on
many items have gone through the roof and they're not likely to come down anytime
soon. But here's some good news… Sally
Herigstad: You can save 30% off your grocery bill easily if not
more. Sally Herigstad
CPA and author of the book Help!
I Can't Pay My Bills, says it's critical to have a list when you go grocery
shopping. First
of all, without a list I'm going to be back again tomorrow for the things I forgot.
But with a list I can get exactly what I need and get out of there instead of
the browsing up and down the aisle. And also with a list you can say, "Well,
I have this and this at home, what do I need to go with it?" Using up the
food at home is the most economical thing you can do. Processed
and frozen pre-packaged food is very expensive considering what you get. Instead
Sally recommends… Get
food that looks something similar to something you would get on a farm and you'll
get better food, it'll taste better, we'll all be healthier and it's so much cheaper.
I figure when I look at my cart (when I'm up at the grocery check-out) if at least
half of what's in my cart came from the produce department or something I had
to bag myself, I did pretty well that day. And
when you pay attention to the price on the shelves you'll be amazed sometimes. I
was going to buy corn, a can of corn, and I just needed a little bit so I thought,
"Well, I'll buy the small, you know the little dinky can." It was actually
more money for the small can of corn than for the full size can. You
