Interview
with Don Aslett, author of the book, Clutter's
Last Stand
|
Mike Carruthers:
If you ever find it difficult to really tackle a cleaning or de-cluttering
job at your home or office…
Don Aslett:
Do it in the morning, when you're very fresh in the morning when
you dejunk if you do it at night you're really sentimental. You
go " Ah, this is so cute, I think I'll keep it for the grandkids."
But you're just a lot more effective in the morning.
Don Aslett,
author of the book, Clutter's
Last Stand…
I always
tell people for a little assistance get four boxes and label
one box junk, one box sort, one box charity and one box emotional
withdrawal. If you get those four boxes; junk, charity, sort
and emotional withdrawal if you've got them sitting in front
of you when you start through your stuff at least it helps you
make a decision you can put it in one box and then the other.
And by the way when you get the emotional withdrawal box full,
seal it put it up on the shelf keep it for six months and then
throw the whole box away. You'll probably never remember what's
in there.
Don has
been helping people clean up and de-clutter their lives for
many years and he believes there's a little magic to it.
Once
you start throwing out stuff, once you start throwing out garbage
and extra shoes and excess a quiet spirit will creep into your
soul and testify you, you don't need stuff to be happy. When
that happens, all of a sudden it's a whole carry over into your
diet. Most people say it's the best diet they ever did in their
life it's when they started throwing out their tangible stuff.
I've just had a lot of people tell me that as soon as they're
junk went, Mike, it carried into how they wanted their mind
to be and how they wanted their body to be. And it just worked.
