Carruthers:
Most people who are considered lucky have something in common.
They tend to be likeable people.
Brian Tracy:
The more that people like you, the more doors they will open
for you. The more they like you, the more they will make excuses
for you if you're not perfect. The more they like you, the more
they'll hire you, promote you, pay you more.
Brian Tracy author
of the book Create
Your Own Future.
So, you find
that the most successful people in almost every field are also
the most likeable, and being the most likeable means that you
make an effort to get along well with other people. You ask
questions. You listen. You're appreciative. In fact, in several
studies that have been done, especially in times of turbulence,
they find the first people let go are the ones nobody likes,
irrespective of how good they are at their jobs. And the first
people hired back are the people that everybody likes.
And Brian believes
socking away a little money is a key to being lucky and successful.
It's an interesting
psychological factor, but if you save your money at each paycheck,
rather than spend it all, and you build up an account so you
have money in the bank, you're a vastly different person than
if you have no money and you're worried about money. Something
about worrying about money kind of undermines your confidence.
It affects your personality. It causes you to be distracted
rather than to be focused, and so on. So, one of the things
we encourage people to do is to continually save a little bit.
Put it away. Don't spend it, and start to think long-term about
their financial lives. It's a very small factor, but it makes
an enormous difference.
