Mike
Carruthers:
You
know those fabric softener dryer sheets? Well one of those little
sheets has a lot of uses.
Neil Wertheimer:
Fabric softener sheet cuts odors, it buffs chrome, you
can use it as a mosquito repellent. We've got dozens of ways of
using fabric softener sheets.
Neil Wertheimer,
Editor and Chief of Readers Digest books, which has just come
out with a new book, Extraordinary
Uses for Ordinary Things, says if you just tie or pin a
fabric softener sheet to your clothes it really does keep mosquitoes
away.
There are so
many uses that we've discovered for Alka-Seltzer, many of them
cleaning uses. For example Alka-Seltzer is good for cleaning
vases particularly those that have residue from flowers at the
bottom. They're good for cleaning toilets, they're very good
for cleaning jewelry - that is if you have old tarnished jewelry,
you can put it in a bowl with water and Alka-Seltzer, pop in
the jewelry and it's going to come out clean. Often it will
do the job unclogging a drain if you put a couple of tablets
down and pour in water.
Talcum powder
or baby powder has an interesting alternative use you've probably
never thought of…
My favorite one
is when you come back from the beach and you're sweaty and you've
got sand all over you and you want to go inside and you don't
want to leave sand everywhere. Nothing better than a little
talcum powder or baby powder to absorb the liquid and make that
sand come right off of you - so it's a great thing to take with
you to the beach.
Tomorrow, some
of the magic properties of salt and lemon - I'm Mike Carruthers
and that's Something You Should Know.
