Mike

I
bet you never knew this about meat tenderizer…
Neil Wertheimer:
It's good at removing bloodstains because, well, meat
tenderizer breaks down proteins - so, it actually gets out perspiration
stains really well.
Neil Wertheimer,
Editor and Chief at Readers Digest books, which has put out
a new book called Extraordinary
Uses for Ordinary Things, says you can do wonderful things
with salt.
Salt on a broom
- what you want to do is soak the bristles in salt water of
a new broom and it will give the broom a whole lot longer life.
You can remove water marks from wood if you use salt the proper
way - you've got to mix a teaspoon of salt with a little bit
of water to form a paste and then you rub it on. Salt is good
for relieving stings and bites.
Neil says lemon
is almost magic.
It's great for
deodorizing and you can neutralize cat box odor. You can polish
chrome with lemon, it's great for cleaning your cutting boards.
It'll give a boost to laundry detergents - if you squeeze in
some lemons, your clothes are going to come out fresher, cleaner
and brighter.
And hair spray
isn't just for hair.
Hair spray does
have cleaning properties - it'll get lipstick and ink marks
out of fabric. It's also good for spraying on recipe cards that
you keep next to the stove because you always get splatters
and grease stains - when you spray it with hair spray your recipe
cards will wipe clean.
