Mike Carruthers:
Something very interesting is happening in our economy and our
society and it's being driven by the Baby Boomers.
Dan Pink:
The typical Baby Boomer now has more of his or her life behind
him or her than ahead and that can really concentrate the mind.
Daniel
Pink, author of the book,
A Whole New Mind…
So you
have this wide spread sense of people stopping and saying, "
Whoa, wait a second, I'm not going to be here forever, what
is my life about, am I going to step up and do something that's
meaningful and that's significant and it leaves an impact on
the world, what am I here for?" And when you have literally
40 million people coming to that kind of profound conclusion
that can truly change the world.
Something
else driving this huge generational thought process is the fact
that we live in a society that is full of abundance.
And one
of the things this world of abundance has allowed us to do is
think in a way that populations have never been able to think
before about meaning and purpose and transcendence. That's why
you have people who are saying well I want something out of
my job that isn't simply a paycheck, I want a sense of meaning
or purpose. It's why you have 10 million Americans doing meditation,
15 million Americans doing Yoga. I mean those things were these
exotic practices even 15 years ago and now they're in mainstream
suburban shopping malls.
