Who Doesn't Wash Their Hands?
Interview with Ronald Klatz,
M.D. author of Infection
Protection

Mike
Carruthers:
Do you always wash your hands after using the bathroom?
Ronald Klatz,
M.D.:
As many as 50% of men won't wash their hands after going to
the bathroom and 25% of women won't. Very, very scary.
Dr. Ronald Klatz,
author of the book Infection
Protection, says the University of Arizona published some
research a few years ago…
They found that
almost a third of the railings in public transportation, (in
buses and subways) were infected with the same bacteria that
is found in feces. That 25% of the seats in movie theaters were
infected with E.Coli bacteria, which is the bacteria from feces.
We just don't appreciate how much at risk we are simply by not
washing our hands.
If that doesn't
gross you out, next time you're in a restaurant watch the people
who serve your food.
And it is frightening
how many times people who are serving your dinner are touching
their nose, rubbing their nose, sneezing.
Dr. Klatz says
when you do wash your hands in a public restroom, always use
a paper towel to open the door to get out because that doorknob
has been touched by all those people who did not wash their
hands. And always remember to wash under your fingernails.
Another weak
point is that people don't dry their hands thoroughly. If you
don't dry your hands thoroughly, what you're doing is you're
allowing those bacteria to take a bath and to dry right back
on your hands again.
