Carruthers:
Although
I am not a proponent of any type of food police, it is clear we
do have a problem…
Steven Aldana:
We now have the highest amount of body fat in the American
population than any other population in world history.
Steven Aldana,
author of the Stop
& Go Fast Food Nutrition Guide, says there's no doubt
that fast food is a big part of this problem.
It's high in
saturated fat, high in sodium, high in trans fats and it doesn't
contain those foods that protect us like: whole grains, fruits
and vegetables. And we have a lot of people who will eat fast
food ten to twelve times a week.
Steven is not
advocating that we never eat fast food but perhaps we could
eat less of it and make better choices.
There are still
great fast food options out there. You know if you go to your
sandwich places like a Subway or a Blimpies, theirs by far is
probably going to be the healthiest option - calorie wise, saturated
fats, whole grains, vegetables. Wendy's, for example, said they
were going to do away with all of their trans fats and they
actually did it - they've done away with trans fats. So if you
get french fries at Wendy's you're actually getting fries cooked
in healthy vegetable oils, not trans fat oils.
And if you're
really craving a burger from McDonald's, Steven says…
Maybe even just
a simple hamburger at McDonald's - it's got 230 calories and
it's the lesser of a lot of evils.
