Weight Loss & Your Metabolism
Interview
with Cheri Calcagno, author of
Weight Whys
|
Mike
Carruthers:
An
important element to losing weight is increasing your metabolism,
which is the rate at which you burn calories. And how you eat
affects your metabolism.
Cheri Calcagno:
The way to eat to increase your metabolism is to eat
every three to four hours- a lot of people don't know that.
Wellness coach,
Cheri Calcagno, author of the book, Weight
Whys, says that pattern of eating every three to four hours
must begin with breakfast.
When we hook
somebody up to a machine in the lab to study what their metabolism
is, you can see a drastic difference between somebody who doesn't
eat breakfast versus somebody who does. Because we've starved
our body all night, basically, when we're sleeping, we come
out of that fast and expect ourselves to perform but we're not
giving ourselves any fuel- so that really does slow our metabolism
down.
So, we need to
eat more frequently and we need to eat breakfast.
It goes against
what people's common sense might be. Because common sense to
a dieter, typically is?, I need to eat less so that I can lose
weight. But we have to look at our body as a machine and understand
that, "Hey, I've fasted all night, my body needs energy
now, even if it's just half a banana and a piece of whole wheat
toast." That's going to help to break up that fast and
increase the metabolism. There's just no debating that because
we can see the scientific evidence to back that up.
