Mike
Carruthers:
Summertime
means family vacations and to make that vacation more enjoyable
this year…
Chris Epting:
Get your kids involved in the trip - you know, let their
interests drive a certain part of the trip.

Once the kids
get involved, then they feel a little bit of ownership over
the trip and they'll be really excited. You won't have those
kind of, are we there yet, boredom moments in the car because
they've been part of planning so they're excited.
Chris believes
that planning is the key to success in any vacation.
You can plan
about 90% of your trip and you can leave maybe about 10% open
to chance. That's what I like to do, again I like to know where
we're going to be, when we're going to be there - but you want
to leave some time to go and say, " You know what? - we're
going to stop here, we're going to go see the world's largest
strawberry or the world's biggest rocking chair, or whatever."
The price of
gasoline is certainly a factor in planning a road trip this
summer.
You know, I think
in years you're not going to think about how much gas was -
you're going to think about the wonderful view that you had
or the wonderful bit of history you touched or the museum that
you never knew existed- those are the things that I think you'll
play back and that your kids are going to remember. You know,
the gas price, you know it is what it is today - you've just
got to make the best of it.
And on a road
trip when the kids start to get restless and things get a little
tense in the car…
There are certain
songs that we can pop in - Back in the Saddle by Gene Autry
for whatever reason, always sort of quells the mood in a tense
car ride whenever it happens.
