Why Attractive People Make More Money
Interview
with Catherine Caputa, author of U
R A Brand

Mike
Carruthers:
Your
appearance affects whether or not you get hired for a job and
how much money you make.
Catherine Caputa:
Economists and other researchers have known for a long
time that attractive people get hired before unattractive people
and get paid more - but they really never knew why.
Image consultant,
Catherine Caputa, author of the book, U R A Brand, says a recent
study was done by professors at Harvard and Weslyan Universities
and what did they discover?
The reason why
is attractive people are perceived as more self confident and
having better visual and verbal communication skills - right
or wrong that's the perception that people have.
The good news
is that any of us can appear more attractive by paying attention
to your appearance and how you dress.
Also think in
terms of how you carry yourself, standing straight, making eye
contact - all those things communicate. And standing tall and
commanding the space that you're in can be very important in
conveying self-confidence - which translates into a lot of other
very positive things.
Like it or not
people do judge you by their first impression of how you look.
It's a snap judgment,
but we all make snap judgments. - there's been a lot of studies
on that, they call it thin slicing. The crazy thing is that
one snap judgment of somebody and it's based largely on visual
factors - how somebody looks - that that first impression you
have is very similar after knowing somebody after six months
or nine months.
