Mike Carruthers:
Want to have a more productive day, then start each day by
answering the question…
Dorothy
Breininger:
What is the single most important task I want to accomplish
today for my family, for myself, for business?
Time
management expert, Dorothy Breininger, co-author of the book
Time
Efficiency Makeover says it's hard to manage your time well
when you've got so much stuff coming at you.
What
happens is we've got voice mails at work, we've got voicemails
at home, we have email messages at work, we have it at home,
we've got regular mail at work, we have it at home, and it's
overwhelming. So, if you can minimize to one calendar, to one
briefcase, to one laptop or computer that is just a relief.
Technology
is causing another problem with time management. Today with
technology you can do a lot more things than you used to do.
You know
I can download my own checking account information, I can create
my own family newsletter, I can…. You know, and that's the self-sufficiency
fallacy. Just because you can do it doesn't mean that you should
do it.
And know
your time management style. For example just because you tend
to do things at the last minute doesn't necessarily make you
a procrastinator.
I tend
to write my seminars right before I give them. And I know it's
not procrastination rather it's that adrenaline that pushes
me in order to make a really great seminar.
